What services should we expect from the rest home?
Your parent will receive a package of care set by the government.
The package of care will include:
Accommodation and facility services
- a single or shared room and access to communal toilet and shower
- meals
- cleaning
- laundry
- transport for health reasons
- a person to accompany a resident to a health appointment if no family or friends are available
Healthcare
- nursing care
- dressings and supplies used in treatments
- prescribed medication
- continence products
General Practitioner Services
- visits from a General Practitioner
- all healthcare that is prescribed by a General Practitioner
What other requirements must rest homes meet?
The government sets requirements for accommodation, services, staffing and equipment. The Age-Related Residential Care contract - an agreement between rest homes and the government - has information on these requirements.
